IN LOVING MEMORY OF
SUSANNE WILTBERGER

THINGS YOU SMILE AT
by Susanne Wiltberger

You smile when you see a pretty wreath
Or make a jolly snowman
And turtle shells
and holly bells
And the gift that you bring
To the Lord when you sing
And that special light
That shines all day
And then all through the night

We first met Sue when she stopped into the HEART Adoption Center wanting to volunteer. Her love of animals was soon apparent and she gladly did whatever was asked of her no matter how dirty the job. Not only did she work her own weekly shifts, but filled in for others and stopped in daily to visit with her feline family. Sue wasn't afraid of any cat and became an excellent "scruffer" for those cats needing shots, meds or manicure. Unfortunately, she earned a few "battle scars" along the way but it never deterred her. She loved all the cats equally.

Sue loved greeting visitors to the HEART Adoption Center and telling them about the residents. She especially loved children and spent extra time with them answering their questions and teaching them about the rescued animals. Sue made every animal at the Adoption Center a needlework heart with their name on it for their cage door - every time a new animal arrived Sue would show up the next day with a personalized heart - plus also donating some of her artwork for various HEART fundraisers. Many scared cats benefited from Sue's kind words, gentle touch and warm lap.

Sue faced many challenges but never complained or felt sorry for herself - she was more concerned in what she could do for others. She will be greatly missed by all.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF BILL HANNA, SR.
A FRIEND OF THE ANIMALS AND VERY SPECIAL FRIEND OF HEART

Bill Hanna Sr. (also known as "The Boss" by his family and many friends) passed away on September 19, 2008. Bill was the owner of Rodney's Restaurant & Lounge in Hamburg. Bill’s kindness and generosity in helping animals made him even more special to all who had the chance to know him. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family and the animals he dearly loved.

In memory of “Big Boss” his family and friends gathered together on September 21, 2009 for the "Big Boss Memorial Golf Tournament” that was held at the Brierwood Country Club in Hamburg. To honor "The Boss", a Chinese Auction and T-Shirt sale was held at the event to raise money for a charity that was very close to Bill's heart - HEART Animal Rescue and Adoption Team. On October 16, 2009 Bill Hanna Jr. and his wife Robin (who organized the event) presented HEART with a generous donation in "The Boss's" memory.

HEART is committed to saving the lives of animals in need and we are extremely honored and grateful to you “Big Boss”, your family and friends for acknowledging the importance of animal rescue and the need for donations. Bill will be remembered in every animal’s life that is saved and this wonderful donation means we're one step closer to creating a world where there are no more homeless pets.

JOHN WELLS
“MY NAME IS JOHN AND I HAVE A TRUCK”
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
JOHN WELLS

On April 4, 2009 HEART lost a dear friend and a long-time volunteer.

It was a rare week that John Wells was not volunteering with his truck to help do whatever was needed for HEART. Our catch phrase became “if you need someone with a truck to help just call John”.

John ran errands all over town for HEART. He transported cats, coordinated donation jars at local businesses, picked up donations for yard sales, picked up pet food donations, sold tickets to fundraisers, posted flyers, worked fundraisers and much more. Whatever we needed him for…John was willing to help.

John never sought praise or recognition for his work. His gentle, caring, peaceful nature made it easy for animals to love and trust him. Those of us that had the honor of knowing him quickly grew to love him. To say he will be missed does not begin to explain how great this loss is to HEART and to the animals he loved so much.

As we continue our mission of saving innocent animals, let us reflect on our dear John and allow his memory to guide us through the trials and tribulations before us in our quest for a better life for all animals.
