Special Need Animals
Although all of the animals we rescue at HEART are special, once in a while we rescue a “special needs" cat or dog. There is often nothing very wrong with them. They have some sort of physical, emotional or other type of disability. Some are just shy with strangers. Others have chronic, but minor health problems. Some are a few years old. Some are disabled through injuries or abuse. Some have special dietary or medical needs. Some need help getting around, extra medicines, or a home that has no other pets or children.
Special needs pets might be forgotten elsewhere, but HEART volunteers have always held a special place in their hearts for the animals that need a little extra care. We make every effort to find the most perfect, loving, new home for them. It is our special needs animals that have additional obstacles blocking their paths to happiness. We urge you to understand their needs and consider making a monumental difference in their lives.
Pets with special needs are special, indeed. Given the opportunity, their potential to change your life is unlimited! Are you one of the special people who can open your heart and home to an animal that really, really needs you?
Special People, Special Adoptions
Meet some of the folks who welcomed HEART special needs animals into their lives.
"SERAPHINA"
I have the privilege of owning one of the most special pets ever thanks to HEART. Her name is Seraphina. She is a beautiful kitten who plays all the time and loves to be outside with me. Today she was chasing the leaves stirred up by the wind. She tried to catch flies. Nothing special about that except she is rear paralyzed but she does not know it. She can do anything she puts her mind to. I love her spirit and her loving nature. I love HEART for not listening to the vets when they said she should be euthanized. If they could see her now! Thank you so much. Seraphina is a much loved member of our family.
"RAY"
Ray was rescued from a hoarder house with over 90 malnourished, sick cats. Many of the cats did not survive. Ray is one of the lucky ones that came to HEART. He is blind but he doesn’t let his blindness stop him in any way. He is a happy, sweet, loving cat. Everybody loves Ray and Ray loves everybody!! He is a bundle of enthusiasm that loves to run and play with his jingly balls and fuzzy toy mice.
If Ray had gone to a traditional shelter he probably would have been euthanized. But HEART knew Ray didn’t want to die and deserved a chance to be a cherished pet. Ray got that chance. His new mom, Juliet, says Ray is an amazing addition to her household and she is blessed to have such a wonderful cat!!
