In the production of our wholesale fresh market vegetables, W.D. Henry & Sons, Inc. tries to incorporate the latest methods in order to increase efficiency, safety and quality of our produce. We are continually working with the land grant colleges, including Cornell University, for better and more efficient cultural practices. We also work in partnership with various seed companies, implementing field trials, to determine the best varieties to grow in our area.
We utilize the IPM (Integrated Pest Management) program at our farm to monitor the presence of potentially harmful pests. The employment of IPM, which allows for early detection and the use of minimum thresholds, reduces our pesticide use. We use drip irrigation for more efficient use of our water supply. Plastic mulches are used for certain crops in the planting process to enhance and speed growth.
We also comply with “GAP” (Good Agricultural Practices) in order to ensure the safety of our produce, minimizing the possible hazards of microbial bacteria on fresh produce.
We strive to grow high quality fresh produce, most available in several different packs and grades. Our production includes sweet corn, peppers, cucumbers, squashes, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower.
